The Challenge
Catchup.email is a new online email app that allows you to add all your emails accounts and manage them in one place using the same tools, the same UI, and getting a simple, intuitive and fresh experience.
We can always expect interesting challenges in this kind of projects, like the brand design and message, Logo, Product website and UI/UX of the app. Just the number of tools to accommodate in the app, is by itself, a challenge, but besides this, the biggest one was the creation of a simple, appealing and clean way to present and interact with everything, without filling too much the working area.
After a lot of search and testing, we've found a perfect balance between elegance, simplicity and functionality.
The Soul of an App
Emails, one of the most used way of communication nowadays and still, sometimes, one of the most tiresome and time-consuming task. With so many emails, plugins, and providers available in the market it’s difficult to get one that answers all our needs.
Most of the times we find ourselves looking for workarounds or taking hours searching for plugins and add-ons that suddenly stop working. Catchup.email aims to remove this problem, an online email app that allows you to just work on your emails without worrying about compatibilities, updates, downloads or extra tools to do the job.
To sum, the focus, and purpose of catchup.email app is to provide a simple, secure and fresh app, where you can best use your time to simply get your emails done in the most efficient way.
Product Flow and Analysis
Before we start designing or brainstorming about the product, it's best practice to point the main elements that we should focus as well as some difficulties that, by experience, we know that will be present. With this approach, our ability to keep on track with every element is greatly improved.
Fresh Identity
Catchup.email needed a brand and logo design that was modern, clean and fresh, a different approach from the other email apps, even the logo should be something different than what we see when we talk about emails.
The approach we took was to play with the name "catch up" and use the C and a simplified form of an inverted "e" to create a symbol that looks clean and stylized.
By the word "catchup" in the brand name, we can understand: It's an App that lets you manage and keep your emails always up to date in an easy and effortless way.
Direct to the point
Following a simple and clean approach, the app website was designed to present the most important topics and tools that will help the workload of the majority of the users. Each of the features mentioned here has a description, a number that represents where you can find that tool on the app UI or a specific section for more in-depth information. The website was made for fast and easy navigation, optimized coding and ready for devices.
No Cutting Corners
Every solid and lifelong house have good foundations, and that's why we start from the basics with pencil, paper and a lot , a lot of sketches.
With these sketches, we can get a basic idea of design, elements disposition, aesthetics, usability of the app and even anticipate some problems and limitations down the line, we can also analyze and discard elements and ideas that won't fit the purpose.
After the sketches, we proceed with wireframing on the computer, now more focused on space, and usability.
